MP OPENS COLWYN BAY CHURCH

Posted on 2nd March, 2017

Clywd West MP, David Jones, opened the new Woodhill Baptist Church at Hawarden Road, Colwyn Bay, last Saturday (25 February).

The church had formerly occupied premises at Rhiw Road, but the congregation bought the prominent red-brick building after it was put up for sale by its previous owners, the Presbyterian Church. It has been completely restored by members of the congregation, and the basement has been converted into a youth centre.

The church was packed for the opening ceremony, which was presided over by Pastor Leonard James. David Jones and Colwyn Bay’s Deputy Mayor, Jeff Pearson, cut the ribbon and pronounced the church open.

David Jones said:

“This was a great day for Woodhill Baptist Church. It was sad when the old Presbyterian Church closed and many local people feared that the building, which is a prominent feature of the town, would fall into decay.

“However, the people of the church have put a huge amount of effort into restoring it. It is good to see it being allowed to continue the use for which it was designed, and the new youth centre will be a great asset to the town.

“I congratulate Pastor Leonard James and all the congregation for their hard work and dedication.”
