JONES WELCOMES WIND FARM REFORMS

Posted on 29th June, 2015

Clwyd West MP, David Jones, has welcomed the Conservative Government’s decision to end costly subsidies for new onshore wind farms.

David Jones said:

“For far too long, people and communities have had to endure the enforced development of onshore wind farms near their homes and businesses, and to add insult to injury, they have been forced to pay higher electricity bills as a result.

“The Conservative Government’s decision to abolish subsidies for new onshore wind farms means that people will be far less likely to have to suffer the consequences of having such projects in their local areas. Furthermore, the public will no longer be forced to pay for them by way of higher electricity bills.

“I also welcome the Government’s decision to reform the planning system in England in such a way as to ensure that local communities will have a decisive say over whether new onshore wind farms are built in their areas.

“Decision-making in Wales will be devolved by the Government to local authorities and I urge the devolved administration in Cardiff Bay not to disturb these arrangements. It is right that local communities should have the final say on matters of such local importance.”
