MP CRITICISES PROMENADE PARKING DECISION

 Westminster, 7 June 2016

Commenting on the news that the joint Customers and Communities Scrutiny Committee of Conwy County Borough Council had decided to recommend the imposition of parking charges on Colwyn Bay’s promenade, Clwyd West MP, David Jones, said:

‘This is extremely bad news for the people of Colwyn Bay and Rhos on Sea.

‘The sea front has improved tremendously over recent years as a consequence of the laying of the new beach. For the first time in years, Colwyn Bay is starting to attract visitors in large numbers.

‘It is very disappointing that the council should now decide to undo the good work that they have done by imposing parking charges.

‘Not only will this deter visitors to the area, but it will also result in displacement parking in the residential streets of Rhos on Sea.

‘The Bay of Colwyn Town Council were quite right to oppose this proposal, and they have the widespread support of the local residents.

‘It is not too late for the council to decide not to proceed with the proposed parking charges and I strongly urge them, even at this late stage, to change their minds.’
