MP WELCOMES SIOP PWLLGLAS TO ‘RURAL OSCARS’ IN WESTMINSTER

 Westminster, 28 April 2016

 David Jones, MP for Clwyd West, welcomed Pwllglas volunteers from the Community Shop, Ruthin, to the prestigious Countryside Alliance Awards, also known as the ‘Rural Oscars’, in the Palace of Westminster yesterday (27 April).

Pwllglas Community Shop won the best village shop in Wales earlier this year and the team, including Sharon Newell, Anne Windebank, Jenny Stewart Fox, and Rhona Soloman, attended the House of Lords for a reception to celebrate the success of all finalists of each category.

David Jones MP said:

‘I was delighted to meet the team from Siop Pwllglas today and congratulate them on winning the Best Village Shop in Wales award.

‘Siop Pwllglas is celebrating is third year in business this year and has become a real asset to the local community.

‘It was a pleasure to see them and I look forward, I hope, to seeing them here again next year!’

Rachel Evans, Countryside Alliance Director for Wales said:

‘This award goes to a community enterprise that re-launched a village shop after a 20-year gap in service.

‘The entrepreneurial thinking of the team at Pwllglas has secured its future.’

The Countryside Alliance aims to provide a platform for the nation’s rural producers, enterprises, and communities. They received over 3,500 nominations from across the country for the awards.
