Clwyd West MP, David Jones, today welcomed the Chancellor’s final Spring Budget, in which he announced Government plans to build on current economic strength to achieve a stronger, fairer, and better Britain for everyone.
Addressing the House of the Commons, the Chancellor set out the positive OBR economic forecast, which highlighted the key successes of the Government’s current economic policies, and set out plans for the future.
Further announcements were made to support the Government’s commitment to build a country that works for everyone through plans which will ensure Britain is the best place in the world to do business, whilst also creating a fairer tax system.
There was an emphasis on the need to bolster UK productivity. The Chancellor committed to further spending on infrastructure projects, technical education, and research and development.
David Jones said:
“The Conservative Government has strengthened the economy to ensure a strong foundation. We are en route to eliminating the deficit but we cannot be complacent.
“The challenges presented by globalisation, changing markets, and an ageing population highlight the need to be agile, invest well, and remain competitive. The Chancellor’s budget will well equip Britain’s economy to respond.
“I welcome the announcement of investment into transport links and digital technology, which are now crucial to the vitality of our economy, and help to fill the UK productivity gap. The further investments into technical and lifelong learning will also maintain Britain’s ability to adapt to the needs of changing markets.
“I am particularly encouraged by the announcement on digital infrastructure, which will, I hope, serve my constituents through its aims to unlock the potential of 5G and deliver full-fibre broadband more widely.”
