MP URGES BILL PAYERS TO CHECK ENERGY DEALS
Westminster, 15 April 2016
David Jones, MP for Clwyd West, has urged households to consider changing energy suppliers, following the release of new data which shows North Wales residents are paying the highest rates in the UK.
The figures, published by MoneySuperMarket, indicate that households could save up to £379.29 annually, a 32.9% decrease, and are paying £71.62 more than residents in the East Midlands, the region with the lowest tariffs.
The analysis, covering 14 regions across the UK, aims to promote competition and consumer rights across the energy sector by highlighting consumer overspending. According to the data, their collective overpayment to the industry averages at £4.2billion every year.
David Jones MP said:
‘I was shocked to see how much North Wales residents are overpaying on energy bills. A simple check of other tariffs could save each household up to £379.29 per year.
‘I would urge bill payers to shop around to ensure they are getting the best deal available to them. There are several organisations that specialise in providing advice and services to those who wish to switch providers and tariffs, and I would encourage households to make use of them.’
