David Jones MP opposes plan for Rhos on Sea Promenade works

Clwyd West MP, David Jones, has criticised Conwy County Borough Council’s proposal to redevelop the waterfront at Rhos on Sea.

David Jones said:

“I agree entirely with the position of our serving Conservative Councillors, as well as our prospective councillors. I am very unhappy with the current proposals for the redevelopment of Rhos on Sea promenade.

“Reducing the flow of traffic to one way on the sea front would significantly increase congestion on Cayley Promenade, as well as generating traffic fumes. Consequently, Cayley Promenade and the surrounding residential streets would become a far less pleasant place.

“Similarly, I share the concerns of a large number of my constituents regarding the proposal to remove the retail kiosks on the promenade. The kiosks are extremely popular and are well patronised, not only during the summer season, but throughout the year. They are an important feature of Rhos on Sea and contribute significantly to its attraction as a seaside resort.

“It is extremely disappointing that the Council has refused to attend a public meeting to listen and respond to the concerns of local residents. It is essential that the Council should be able to justify their proposals, and I am extremely disappointed that they apparently do not want to engage with members of the public, who ultimately fund the Council through their own council tax. That is completely unacceptable.”
