On 19 March the Government published emergency legislation that will suspend the eviction of tenants from both social and private rented accommodation, with new possession proceedings, through applications to the courts, being prevented until further notice.
The Government will also issue updated guidance, which will request landlords allow tenants to remain in their homes. This guidance will also outline how both landlords and tenants shall be expected to work together, after this period has ended, to establish an affordable repayment plan.
To support landlords the Government will extend the 3-month mortgage payment holiday to Buy to Let mortgages. Additionally, landlords with a government backed Help to Buy equity loan will also be offered interest payment holidays.
As you will no doubt be aware, this is a fast-moving situation with new announcements being made rapidly.
